April 29, 2026 – In a groundbreaking move, SpaceX’s board of directors has recently given the green light to an extraordinary compensation package for CEO Elon Musk. This new plan intricately ties Musk’s personal financial gains to a series of ambitious future projects, including the colonization of Mars and the establishment of space-based data centers.
Details of this innovative compensation scheme were unveiled in a confidential registration statement submitted by SpaceX to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). According to excerpts from the filing obtained by the media, the board has set specific milestones that, if achieved, will result in substantial stock awards for Musk.

One of the key conditions outlined in the agreement is that if SpaceX’s market valuation reaches a staggering $7.5 trillion and a permanent settlement with a minimum population of one million is established on Mars, Musk will be granted 200 million restricted shares with super-voting rights. Additionally, should SpaceX achieve another valuation target and construct a space data center capable of delivering at least 100 terawatts (TW) of computing power, he will receive an additional 60.4 million restricted shares.
This move by SpaceX echoes a similar strategy employed by Tesla in 2018. At that time, Tesla approved a compensation plan that would reward Musk with significant stock options if the company met specific market capitalization and sales milestones. Musk successfully accomplished all these targets, leading to substantial financial gains.
In November of the previous year, Tesla shareholders once again endorsed a new compensation plan for Musk, which has the potential to elevate his total compensation to a staggering 1trillion.ThislatestplanrequiresTeslatoachieveaseriesofincreasinglychallenginggoalsover12phases,includingraisingitsmarketvaluefrom1.4 trillion to $8.5 trillion, delivering 20 million vehicles annually, and mass-producing one million humanoid robots.
According to Forbes’ estimates, Musk’s current net worth stands at an impressive $776 billion, a figure that could see a dramatic increase if he manages to fulfill the extraordinary conditions set forth in these compensation packages.
