Amazon Introduces ‘Refund Only’ Option for Items Under $75: Feature Defaulted to Off

August 16, 2024 – Amazon has recently announced an expansion of options for sellers to handle customer returns, introducing a flexible “(refund) no return” policy for US-based sellers using Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA). This new measure aims to streamline the processing of inventory returns.

According to Amazon, they have unveiled the FBA Return-Free Solution, a novel program designed to simplify the returns process. Under this scheme, sellers can offer customers a full refund without requiring the return of the product.

The “refund only” option is limited to products priced under $75. However, Amazon cautions that “eligibility for this solution is subject to legal, safety, and regulatory guidelines.”

Products with an average price exceeding $75, as well as hazardous or bulky items, are excluded from this policy. Currently, Amazon does not mandate the activation of the refund-only feature, which remains off by default in the seller’s backend settings.

Following the rollout of the “refund only” option, many Amazon sellers have voiced their dissatisfaction, with some even expressing concern that it could potentially encourage fraudulent behavior.
