September 14, 2024 – Tesla is gearing up for a grand event on October 10th at the Warner Bros. film studio in the Los Angeles area, where it plans to unveil its highly anticipated Robotaxi, an autonomous ride-sharing vehicle. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, has declared this day as the most significant for the company since the launch of the Model 3.
According to reports from Electrek, studio personnel have revealed that Tesla’s team has been conducting site surveys and mapping for the upcoming event. A post by a Warner Bros. employee, MatthewDR, on Reddit (now deleted), featured images of a uniquely designed, heavily camouflaged compact vehicle spotted at the studio. This is believed to be the Robotaxi that Tesla will soon introduce.
The photos depict a two-door, two-seater vehicle wrapped in yellow tape, adorned with several fake body panels. At the rear, there’s a box-like protrusion, possibly to conceal the vehicle’s contours. The car is rumored to feature elongated taillights similar to those on the Cybertruck.
Tesla enthusiasts speculate that this is indeed the Robotaxi, as the spy shots bear a resemblance to the Robotaxi concept illustrations in “The Elon Musk Biography.” These illustrations showcase a vehicle designed for two passengers, with ample rear storage space and larger rear wheels compared to the front.
While the leaker couldn’t clearly see if there was a steering wheel in the driver’s seat, enhancing the photo’s brightness seems to reveal one. Additionally, there’s a noticeable protrusion on the roof’s center, possibly indicating a LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) device. However, Tesla has long maintained that LiDAR is not essential for autonomous driving, with Musk arguing that it only adds to the cost.
