July 02, 2024 – LG Energy Solution (LGES) announced on Tuesday that it has signed an agreement to supply lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries to Renault’s electric vehicle subsidiary, Ampere. This marks LGES’s first large-scale supply of LFP batteries.
Ampere revealed its intention to incorporate LFP technology into its mass production plans, collaborating with suppliers LG Energy Solution (from its Polish factory) and CATL (from its Hungarian factory) to establish a value chain in Europe.
According to the statement, these two companies will provide LFP batteries for Ampere, with plans to utilize them in multiple Renault and Alpine branded vehicles starting in 2026.
The official announcement stated that under a five-year contract through 2030, LG Energy Solution will deliver 39 gigawatt-hours of LFP battery packs to Renault Ampere, enough to power approximately 590,000 electric vehicles.
Additionally, Ampere declared its partnership with LG Energy Solution to develop Cell-to-Pack technology. The company noted that the integration of LFP with Cell-to-Pack technology is expected to reduce Ampere’s automotive battery costs by approximately 20% from 2026 onwards.
