November 05, 2024 – General Motors has announced that it sold 32,000 electric vehicles in the third quarter of this year, securing the second spot in the US electric vehicle sales rankings. The sold vehicles include models such as the Chevrolet Silverado, Blazer, and Equinox EV, along with the GMC Hummer EV and Cadillac Lyriq.
According to the company, it has sold a total of 370,000 electric vehicles in North America since 2016, with 300,000 of those being sold in the United States. While Tesla still maintains an undisputed lead, having sold over 5 million vehicles since 2008, General Motors is making significant progress in the electric vehicle market.
James Cain, Executive Director of Financial and Sales Communications at General Motors, stated that sales have been accelerating since the company established its dedicated electric vehicle platform, previously known as Ultium, and began producing batteries through joint ventures with LG and Samsung SDI.
Data from Kelley Blue Book reveals that General Motors’ electric vehicle sales surpassed its competitor Ford by approximately 8,600 units in the third quarter. However, Ford spokesman Dan Barbossa claims that “Ford remains the second best-selling electric vehicle brand in the US, after Tesla.” Nonetheless, General Motors’ strong sales figures indicate a growing demand for its electric vehicle offerings and a bright future for the company in the EV market.
