March 19, 2024 – In a recent interview, Elon Musk teased the upcoming generation of the Tesla Roadster, hinting that it would be a radical departure from its predecessors and even pushing the boundaries of what we consider a car.
Known for his ambitious projects and forward-thinking ideas, Musk didn’t hold back when discussing the next iteration of the Roadster, which he described as “not even really a car.” This bold statement hints at the possibility of the new Roadster incorporating advanced technologies that go beyond traditional automotive designs.
Musk reiterated his collaboration with SpaceX, stating that “we can expect some rocket technology to be applied” to the new Roadster. When asked if the vehicle would be a flying car, Musk responded with a coy “maybe,” adding that it would feature “some kind of rocket technology.”
According to Musk, the only way to top the excitement generated by the Tesla Cybertruck is to combine the best of Tesla and SpaceX technologies, creating a product that transcends the concept of a car and offers something “unheard of.”
Addressing rumors about whether the new Roadster would sport traditional wings, Musk clarified that “there won’t be big wings.” Instead, he revealed that the vehicle would adopt a yoke steering wheel, similar to the control system found in airplanes or modern jetliners.
The second-generation Tesla Roadster, unveiled in late 2017, was originally scheduled for release in 2020 but faced multiple delays. Musk attributed these delays to global supply chain bottlenecks, pushing back the Roadster’s launch. However, in February of this year, Musk announced that the Roadster would finally hit the roads by the end of 2024, although it remains to be seen if the deadline will be met.
The second-generation Roadster boasts impressive specifications, including all-wheel drive, a wheel torque of up to 10,000 N·m, and a blistering 0-60 mph acceleration time of less than 1 second. It also has a top speed exceeding 400 km/h and an impressive range of 1000 km, making it one of the most anticipated electric vehicles on the market.
