June 28, 2024 –Nine months after Uzbekistan announced the signing of an investment agreement with BYD for the production of electric and hybrid vehicles and their components on September 26 last year, the Chinese automotive giant has marked a significant achievement. BYD Automobile officially announced that the first batch of its mass-produced new energy vehicles, the Song PLUS DM-i Champion Edition, rolled off the assembly line at its factory in Uzbekistan yesterday.
This milestone comes amidst BYD’s broader commitment to sustainable mobility, as evidenced by the company’s signing of a green transportation cooperation initiative with the Uzbek government. Wang Chuanfu, BYD’s Chairman, emphasized that the commencement of mass production at the Uzbekistan factory will expedite the green transformation of local transportation. The green transportation cooperation initiative underscores BYD’s unwavering dedication to environmentally friendly travel solutions, setting the stage for further advancements in the Central Asian region’s new energy vehicle sector.

Located in the Jizzakh region, BYD’s Uzbekistan factory operates as a joint venture between BYD and Uzavtosanoat JSC, the state-owned automotive conglomerate. This strategic partnership has culminated in the establishment of the “BYD Uzbekistan Factory,” dedicated to the production of electric and hybrid vehicles.
In its initial phase, the factory targets the production of two popular plug-in hybrid models: the Song PLUS DM-i Champion Edition and the Destroyer 05 Champion Edition. With an annual production capacity projected at 50,000 units, the factory aims to cater to the burgeoning demand in the Central Asian market.
BYD’s investment in Uzbekistan is not only a testament to its global expansion strategy but also a reflection of its dedication to fostering sustainable mobility worldwide. As the company continues to leverage its innovative technologies to propel the development of new energy vehicles across the region, it solidifies its position as a leader in the global automotive industry’s green transition.
