Samsung’s New Ad Takes a Jab at Apple’s Innovation, Sparks Online Debate

November 15, 2024 – Samsung Electronics has released a new advertisement titled “Simon Says,” taking a swipe at Apple and mocking its perceived lack of innovation. In the ad, Samsung pokes fun at the blind following of Apple fans and the homogeneity of Apple products, highlighting the innovation and differentiation of its own offerings.

The commercial unfolds with a consumer lined up to purchase the latest iPhone, who upon unpacking it asks, “Is there anything new?” Someone replies, “Who cares?” suggesting a blind devotion among Apple users. The advertisement then showcases various features of Samsung Galaxy phones, such as the flip-screen translation of the Galaxy Z Flip 6, the S Pen stylus of the Galaxy S24 Ultra, and the AI image editing capabilities of Galaxy phones. The tagline at the end declares, “Nobody should wait for innovation.”

However, observers have pointed out in online comments that Samsung hasn’t made significant breakthroughs in mobile phone innovation in recent years. They argue that Samsung should focus on innovating its own products rather than consistently criticizing its competitors.

According to Androidauthority, Samsung has a history of directly targeting Apple in its advertisements, with the 2018 “Ingenius” campaign being a prime example. Back then, Samsung was in its prime, introducing groundbreaking devices like the Galaxy Note 9. Fast forward to 2024, the landscape has shifted, and Samsung’s jabs are seen as somewhat cliched, considering the lack of substantial changes in Samsung phones over the years.
