December 23, 2024 – Alibaba Has Officially Launched Operations in Morocco, Marking Its First African Foray
Alibaba has recently announced its expansion into Morocco, signaling the e-commerce giant’s first African venture. This move is aimed at assisting Moroccan businesses in expanding their exports to new markets, particularly North America.
The company revealed its growth strategy during a meeting held in Casablanca on Wednesday, December 18th, local time. Representatives from Moroccan corporations and governmental trade and export organizations attended the gathering.
To bolster its Moroccan operations, Alibaba has partnered with local firm Clementia. According to Clementia’s CEO, Reda Chraibi, Moroccan enterprises can now establish digital storefronts on Alibaba, significantly easing their access to global buyers and enhancing export opportunities.
It’s worth noting that Morocco’s exports currently rely heavily on the European Union, but the country is actively seeking to diversify its export destinations. Currently, fewer than 30 Moroccan companies utilize the Alibaba platform. However, reports indicate that this number is expected to rise significantly with the introduction of this new service.
