November 13, 2024 – Greg Brockman, the co-founder and former president of OpenAI, has announced his official return to the company through a post on X.
“The longest vacation of my life is over, and now it’s time to resume building @OpenAI,” Brockman stated.
Brockman’s departure from OpenAI dates back to the days of the internal struggle involving Sam Altman. He announced his resignation just hours after Altman’s departure, with no explanation provided by the board regarding his exit.
While Altman has since returned to lead OpenAI, Brockman’s return had been long awaited. According to Bloomberg, Brockman had been collaborating with Altman, and OpenAI is creating a new role for him to focus on significant technical challenges.
In addition to Brockman and Altman, several other key figures, including former Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati, co-founder John Schulman, and co-founder Ilya Sutskever, have left the company. Sutskever and Murati have gone on to establish their own AI startups.
