June 15, 2024 – In a recent Talk Show Live interview following Apple’s WWDC 2024, Apple’s Vice President of Software Engineering, Craig Federighi, briefly mentioned that iOS will now include metadata labeling for images generated by AI, indicating that they are “AI Generated.”
Tech publication 9to5Mac, upon examining the iOS 18 Beta 1 update codes, discovered references to a “forensics” feature within the VisualGeneration framework. This feature is designed to mark and identify artificial intelligence-produced imagery.
According to reports, Apple’s Image Playground application solely generates cartoon-style images, steering clear of creating photorealistic pictures. This approach serves as a preventative measure against the dissemination of misinformation through the use of this tool.
As part of Apple Intelligence, the company announced the “Image Playground” feature during WWDC 2024. This function enables users to instantly create conceptual images of clothing, accessories, locations, and more.
Users can input descriptions and choose from various animations, illustrations, or sketches. The “Image Playground” then generates images tailored to the user’s preferences. These preview images are created directly on the device and can be accessed across various applications such as Messages, Notes, Freeform, and even within the dedicated “Image Playground” app.
