May 23 2025 – Today, tech media outlet MacRumors unveiled a blog post detailing Apple’s recent move to roll out its next-generation in-car system, “CarPlay Ultra,” in select markets and vehicle models. The update introduces two new applications: Radio and Climate.
One of the most notable enhancements in CarPlay Ultra is the introduction of the Radio app. This addition allows users to control AM and FM radio stations directly through the CarPlay interface, eliminating the need to switch between CarPlay and the vehicle’s built-in software—a significant improvement over the traditional CarPlay experience.

Moreover, the Radio app extends its capabilities to satellite radio control. While SiriusXM already has its standalone app, integrating it into CarPlay offers a more streamlined experience. Apple has showcased the interface for SiriusXM within the Radio app, although the detailed design for the AM/FM section remains under wraps for now.
In addition to the Radio app, CarPlay Ultra also incorporates the Climate app, enabling users to adjust the car’s temperature and fan speed directly from the CarPlay interface. This feature further reduces reliance on the vehicle’s native system.

Currently, CarPlay Ultra is available in new and some existing Aston Martin models in the United States and Canada, initially limited to this luxury brand. However, Apple has pledged to expand CarPlay Ultra’s availability to more car manufacturers worldwide over the next year.
It’s worth noting that utilizing CarPlay Ultra requires an iPhone 12 or later model, running iOS 18.5 or a newer version. Some users with older devices may need to upgrade to take advantage of this new feature.
