April 1, 2025 – OpenAI’s Image Generation Feature Takes the Internet by Storm, Leading to Temporary Suspension of Video Generation for New Sora Users
OpenAI’s newly launched image generation capability, unveiled last week, has quickly become a sensation, with its impressive capabilities generating enormous demand. However, the overwhelming popularity of this feature has also brought tremendous traffic pressure to OpenAI.
On Monday, the company announced a temporary suspension of the video generation function for new users of Sora. A notice on their support page stated, “Due to the current high traffic load, we have temporarily disabled the Sora video generation feature for new accounts. If you have never logged into Sora before, you can still utilize its image generation capabilities.”
It’s worth noting that Sam Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, took to the X platform over the weekend to share that since the launch of the feature, the company has struggled to keep up with the demand. Employees have been working overtime, including on weekends, to maintain the normal operation of the service.
