BYD’s Fangchengbao division officially announced today that the Shark pickup truck, which has been a strong seller in overseas markets, is making its return to the Chinese domestic market. The vehicle is expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Xiong Tianbo, General Manager of BYD’s Fangchengbao division, posted on social media today with the caption “The Shark Pickup Returns as an Overseas Champion,” accompanied by a set of official images.
The domestic version will feature the Fangchengbao badge, while largely retaining the rugged styling of the overseas model. The exterior showcases a boxy, hard-edged design with straight body lines, a horizontal front light bar, square-shaped headlights, black cladding, and a silver front skid plate. The rear comes with a standard pickup bed featuring anti-slip and modular interior design for outdoor camping and off-road use.

Inside, the cabin uses dark leather with orange stitching accents. The dashboard is equipped with a large floating touchscreen and a full digital instrument cluster, while the center console retains numerous physical buttons and dedicated off-road control modules.
The base model adopts a plug-in hybrid system combining a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine (143 kW) with dual electric motors (170 kW front, 150 kW rear). A high-performance variant with a 2.0-liter turbo engine, already launched in the Australian market in April this year, may also be introduced for domestic production in the future.
Industry sources suggest the top-spec domestic model could be equipped with BYD’s latest Yunnian-Ultra intelligent hydraulic suspension system, which enables tire changes in three minutes, emergency driving on three wheels at up to 15 km/h, and independent four-wheel lifting for off-road recovery.
The Shark pickup was first unveiled globally in Mexico in May 2024. It captured a 70% market share in Mexico’s plug-in hybrid pickup segment in 2025 and sold over 18,000 units in Australia throughout the same year.
