A Massive Supply Chain Shake-Up: OPPO Swaps Sony LYTIA for Samsung ISOCELL Across All Tiers

August 7, 2026 – In a strategic move poised to reshape the mobile imaging landscape, OPPO is reportedly planning a comprehensive transition to Samsung’s 200-megapixel sensors across its mid-range and flagship smartphones, effectively phasing out Sony’s dominant role in its supply chain.

According to industry insiders, this sweeping overhaul is not driven by cost-cutting measures, but rather by OPPO’s ambition to deliver ultra-high-resolution imaging solutions across every tier of its product lineup. Because Sony’s current LYTIA series lacks the diverse specifications required to fulfill this vision, OPPO is turning to Samsung to bridge the gap.

Tech Home, a prominent industry leaker, revealed that OPPO is preparing a full-stack hardware replacement. The transition map is highly specific: in the mid-range segment, the 1/1.56-inch Sony LYT-700 will be replaced by the Samsung ISOCELL HP5. For sub-flagship models, the 1/1.4-inch LYT-808 will give way to the Samsung HPE. In the premium tier, the 1/1.28-inch LYT-828 will be swapped for the Samsung HPC. Even the top-tier 1/1.12-inch LYT-901 is slated for replacement, with industry speculation pointing to Samsung’s unreleased HPA sensor as the successor.

Beyond Samsung, OPPO is also actively expanding partnerships with other component manufacturers to diversify its backup options. This multi-supplier strategy closely mirrors Apple’s supply chain philosophy, designed primarily to mitigate risks. By diversifying its sources, OPPO aims to prevent potential supply disruptions caused by production bottlenecks or unforeseen issues with a single vendor.
