Tesla’s Robotaxi Engineer Recruitment in China Fuels Hopes for Autonomous Ride-Hailing Service Launch

December 29, 2025 – Tesla has sparked market speculation in China by posting a new job advertisement in Shanghai that is directly linked to its Robotaxi project, leading many to believe the company is gearing up to launch a dedicated autonomous ride-hailing service in the country.

According to the job posting, Tesla China is currently seeking a low-voltage electrical engineer to take charge of circuit board design for its self-driving vehicles. This information was shared on social media platform X by industry observer @tslaming, who noted that the recruitment is being conducted on an urgent basis. The successful candidate will join Tesla’s low-voltage hardware team and be responsible for developing the core circuit boards that serve as the “nervous system” of autonomous ride-hailing vehicles.

The job description outlines that the engineer will collaborate closely with multiple teams, including those working on printed circuit board (PCB) layout, firmware development, mechanical design, project management, and testing and validation. The position is based in Shanghai.

China represents a highly promising market for autonomous ride-hailing services, thanks to its densely populated urban clusters and supportive policies implemented in some cities. This potential was already evident in November when Tesla showcased its Cybercab autonomous vehicle at the 8th China International Import Expo in Shanghai. This marked the first appearance of the two-seater self-driving model in the Asia-Pacific region. Although no launch date for the Cybercab in China has been announced yet, the vehicle drew significant attention during the event.
