Toyota Unveils: 2023+ US EVs Get Auto – Charging Route Planning via Apple Maps

October 29, 2025 – On October 23, Toyota made an announcement aimed at enhancing the user experience of its battery – electric vehicles (BEVs). The company revealed that for the 2023 models and subsequent ones sold in the US market, they will fully support Apple Maps’ electric vehicle routing (EV Routing) feature through Apple CarPlay.

The main edge of this new feature lies in its seamless integration of charging planning into the CarPlay in – car system. According to a related blog post, in the past, Toyota owners who wanted to plan a route that included charging stations had to exit the CarPlay interface and use other apps or the vehicle’s built – in system, which was quite cumbersome. Now, users can complete the entire long – distance route planning directly within the familiar Apple Maps interface.

Apple Maps’ EV Routing function is highly intelligent. It can obtain key data such as the vehicle’s battery level in real – time. Then, it conducts a comprehensive analysis by taking into account various factors like altitude changes and traffic conditions during the journey. Based on this analysis, it automatically recommends charging stations to the driver at the most appropriate times.

What’s more, this system also offers crucial safety protection for drivers. When the system detects that the vehicle’s battery level is too low and may not be able to reach the next planned charging station or the destination, Apple Maps will automatically activate an emergency plan. It will immediately guide the driver to the nearest compatible charging station.
