Elon Musk Unveils Grokipedia: An AI-Curated Encyclopedia with 885K+ Articles

October 28, 2025 – The online encyclopedia “Grokipedia,” powered by xAI’s AI assistant Grok, made a brief appearance on Monday local time before crashing shortly after launch. As of press time, the website is back online, with a counter on its homepage indicating that the platform has amassed over 885,000 articles.

Elon Musk, the driving force behind the project, has been a vocal critic of Wikipedia on multiple occasions. He described Grokipedia as “an essential step toward xAI’s goal of understanding the universe.” Musk and his supporters have long accused Wikipedia of bias. In response, Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales previously stated that Musk’s allegations against the crowd-sourced encyclopedia “do not align with the facts.”

Last week, Musk revealed that the launch of Grokipedia had been delayed due to “the need for additional work to remove promotional content.” Interestingly, some entries on Grokipedia currently bear a striking resemblance to those on Wikipedia, though the platform does not employ Wikipedia’s inline citation format. Each of these entries includes a small-print disclaimer at the bottom: “This content is adapted from Wikipedia and licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.”
