iOS 18 Dominates with 82% Adoption, iPadOS 18 Follows at 71% – June App Store Data

June 6, 2025 – According to the latest data revealed on Apple’s Developer website, as of June 4, 2025, and based on device transaction statistics from the App Store, iOS 18 has achieved an adoption rate of 88% among devices launched in the past four years. Across all devices, its adoption rate stands at 82%.

In addition to iOS 18, AppleInsider, a well-known tech media outlet, has compiled statistics on the adoption rates of Apple’s iOS systems over the past decade. The data shows that the average adoption rate for iOS over the last 10 years is 83.2%. Among these, iOS 14 boasts the highest adoption rate at 90%, while iOS 17 recorded the lowest at 77%.

Delving into the annual adoption rates, iOS 8 in 2015 and iOS 9 in 2016 both held steady at 84%. The following year, iOS 10 saw a slight increase to 86%. However, 2018’s iOS 11 experienced a dip to 81%. The trend reversed in 2019 with iOS 12 reaching 87%, only to drop again in 2020 with iOS 13 at 81%.

2021 marked a significant milestone as iOS 14 soared to 90%, the highest in the decade. The subsequent years saw varying rates: iOS 15 in 2022 at 82%, iOS 16 in 2023 at 81%, and iOS 17 in 2024 at 77%. Fast forward to 2025, and iOS 18 has settled at 82%, aligning closely with the decade’s average.

On the iPad front, Apple’s official data also indicates that as of June 4, 2025, iPadOS 18 has an adoption rate of 81% among devices launched in the past four years. When considering all devices, the adoption rate for iPadOS 18 is 71%. This reflects a different trajectory compared to its iOS counterpart, highlighting the distinct user behaviors and device update patterns across Apple’s product lines.
