February 28, 2025 – According to a report by CNBC on the 27th local time, Meta is planning to launch a standalone AI application in the second quarter of this year. This move is part of Mark Zuckerberg’s ambition to surpass OpenAI and Google by the end of the year.
Unlike competing AI tools such as ChatGPT and Perplexity, Meta AI is currently only accessible through the company’s official website and its applications like Facebook and WhatsApp. While Meta’s vast user base can access Meta AI through these platforms, sources indicate that an independent Meta AI app could enable deeper user interaction.

Insiders also revealed that Meta intends to introduce a paid subscription service for Meta AI. Similar to the offerings from OpenAI and Microsoft, this service would charge users a monthly fee for access to a more advanced chatbot.
In response to this news, OpenAI founder Ortman joked on platform 𝕏, “Alright, maybe we’ll make a social app. Haha! If Facebook wants to compete with us, we’ll just play an UNO reverse card. It’s quite amusing to think about!”
Meanwhile, OpenAI announced the release of its GPT-4.5 AI model, touted as their largest and best chat model yet. As a research preview, GPT-4.5 will initially be available to ChatGPT Pro users.
