January 18, 2025 – In a recent post on X, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, announced the completion of a new inference AI model, the o3 mini. The company plans to roll out this model, which includes API and ChatGPT options, in the coming weeks. This development is aimed at making advanced inference AI more accessible and affordable.
During last year’s 12 Days of OpenAI event, the o3 series of large models from OpenAI made a grand appearance on the final day. Officials stated that in certain scenarios, its reasoning abilities are very close to those of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
According to previous reports, o3 is the successor to the o1 inference model and includes both a full version and a compact version (o3-mini). The latter has been fine-tuned for specific tasks and has been in internal testing since December 21st of last year. The announcement marks the upcoming public release of this model.
