November 12, 2024 – Microsoft has recently swapped the “Microsoft Start” logo on the new tab page of its Edge browser with the iconic “butterfly” logo of MSN, signaling a revival of the long-standing MSN brand. The company has also introduced a refreshed logo for MSN, highlighting its elevated status within Microsoft’s product lineup.
In a statement, Microsoft explained that this branding adjustment is aimed at streamlining the user experience and unifying content services. A company spokesperson emphasized that Microsoft regularly evaluates its products to ensure maximum value for customers.
“We are unifying our content services under the MSN brand to better simplify our experience. As part of this change, there will be no impact on functionality,” the spokesperson said.
MSN is one of Microsoft’s oldest and most recognizable brands, but the company had shifted its focus away from MSN towards Microsoft Start in 2021. However, MSN’s stronger brand influence compared to Microsoft Start has led to criticism of the latter’s confusing name since its launch. With this latest move, Microsoft seems to be recognizing the value of MSN’s brand equity and is making efforts to capitalize on it.
