Meta Fires Employees Over Abuse of $25 Meal Allowance

October 18, 2024 – According to a report by the Financial Times, Meta has terminated over 20 employees in Los Angeles due to the misuse of a $25 meal voucher.

It is understood that Meta employees are entitled to a daily allowance of 70,whichincludesanadditional25 specifically designated for meals, essentially Grubhub credits for internal use within the company.

Sources indicate that the affected employees were suspected of chronically abusing the $25 credit, with some using it to purchase daily essentials like toothpaste and tea.

One of the terminated Meta employees, who chose to remain anonymous on the Blind platform, stated, “On days when I’m not eating at the office, like when my husband cooks or I’m dining with friends, I figured I shouldn’t waste these benefits.”

She revealed that she earned an annual salary of approximately $400,000 at Meta and worked extended hours. During the HR investigation, she admitted to the misuse and was subsequently “unexpectedly fired,” describing the experience as “almost surreal.”
