September 27, 2024 –In a blog post published on September 25th, technology media outlet Flatpanelshd expressed amazement at the presence of advertisements even on one of the most expensive televisions available. During their evaluation of LG’s latest high-end G4 OLED TV, they stumbled upon full-screen screensaver advertisements that were tailored to the user’s region.
The LG G4 OLED TV comes in five different sizes, ranging from the 55-inch LG OLED55G4SUB priced at 2,599.99tothecolossal97−inchLGOLED97G4WUAwithastaggeringpricetagof24,999.99. Despite the premium cost, users are still subjected to these ads.
These advertisements not only promote LG Channels, LG’s free, ad-supported streaming service, but also feature full-screen ads from external partners. Currently, these ads are silent, but Flatpanelshd warns that there is a possibility of them becoming audio-enabled in the future.
Fortunately, users have the option to disable these full-screen ads. The process involves navigating to the TV’s settings, selecting ‘Additional Settings’, finding the toggle for ‘Screen Saver Promotion’, and switching it off to disable the screensaver ads.
This discovery highlights the increasing prevalence of advertisements in even the most high-end consumer electronics, prompting discussions about the value and expectations associated with premium products.
