March 18, 2024 – This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Apple Watch series, and rumors are swirling that a significant upgrade is in store for the product line, akin to the leap forward seen with the iPhone X.
According to a recent report by renowned journalist Gurman, “all signs point to the inclusion of blood pressure monitoring capabilities in the upcoming Apple Watch, slated for release this fall.”
Gurman previously hinted at a “groundbreaking” blood pressure sensor technology that would alert users to potential spikes in their blood pressure and track trends for medical reference. However, unlike the precise measurement methods employed by Huawei and Xiaomi, Apple’s approach is likely to focus on calculating blood pressure trends through algorithms rather than providing specific numerical readings.
Huawei and Xiaomi have both implemented blood pressure monitoring in their wearables by using pressurized watchbands and have obtained medical device certifications, ensuring the accuracy and authority of their data. Nonetheless, this design approach results in bulkier watches with thicker bands, which is not aligned with Apple’s design philosophy.
It’s worth noting that while Apple’s method may not offer precise measurements, its trend detection capabilities could still provide valuable insights and timely warnings to users about potential health risks. This approach is similar to Huawei’s blood sugar monitoring feature, which aims to predict trends rather than deliver exact readings, allowing for proactive health management and early intervention.
