Apple Vision Pro Hits Shelves at US$3499: Reset Process Raises Data Loss Concerns

February 06, 2024 – The long-awaited Apple Vision Pro, priced at a hefty US$3499 (roughly equivalent to RMB 25,000), has officially hit the shelves.

Early adopters of the Vision Pro have raised concerns about the potential hassle of losing access to their device in the event of a forgotten password. Apple has clarified that in such cases, customers must bring their Vision Pro to an Apple Store or ship it to Apple Care’s customer support for assistance. The official process involves wiping the device clean of its original password and resetting it for the user.

However, a significant caveat to this process is that all data stored on the Vision Pro will be erased during the reset. This means that users need to ensure they have backed up any important information before deciding to send their device in.

The Vision Pro is a testament to Apple’s commitment to innovation, with the company investing billions of dollars over an eight-year period in its development. The device boasts an impressive array of features, including a combination of the powerful M2 chip and the specialized R1 chip. It is equipped with 12 cameras, 5 sensors, and 6 microphones, making it a highly versatile tool for a variety of uses. The Vision Pro can be used all day long while plugged in and also supports external batteries for up to 2 hours of additional battery life.
