Apple Dominates US Flagship Phone Market, Surpassing Samsung by 52.4%

June 27, 2024 – A recent report published by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) has revealed interesting insights into the smartphone market in the United States between April 2023 and March 2024. According to the report, Samsung led the market with a 38% share, while Apple followed closely with a 33% share, trailing by just 5 percentage points.

Motorola secured the third spot with a 13% market share, Google claimed the fourth position with 6%, and “other” manufacturers accounted for the remaining 10%.

A deeper analysis of the data showed that Apple has a significant advantage in the flagship segment. The report indicated that 64% of iPhones sold during this period were “flagship” models, compared to only 42% for Samsung. This gives Apple a notable 52.4% lead over Samsung in flagship sales.

For clarity, CIRP defines “flagship” phones as “the current generation’s latest high-end devices.” In Apple’s case, these are the four models of the iPhone 15 series, while for Samsung, they include the Galaxy S24 series, Galaxy Z Flip5, and Galaxy Z Fold5.

Interestingly, the report highlighted a contrast in sales patterns between the two leading brands. While iPhone SE and older models accounted for approximately one-third of Apple’s total iPhone sales in the US, Samsung’s lower-priced and older models made up nearly 60% of their sales. This difference reflects varying market strategies and consumer preferences between the two tech giants.
