October 17, 2024 – Amazon has confirmed the discontinuation of its Kindle Oasis, which was the company’s only e-reader model still featuring physical page-turning buttons. This announcement comes on the heels of the unveiling of a refreshed Kindle product line, with the company also affirming to The Verge that they will no longer produce the Oasis.
In a statement, Amazon spokesperson Devon Corvasce stated, “Once the current inventory of Kindle Oasis is sold out online and in our physical stores, we will not be replenishing it. Nowadays, all our devices are touchscreen-first, which is what our customers are accustomed to.”
The official page for the Amazon Kindle Oasis now indicates that the e-reader is “currently out of stock.”
Amazon originally introduced the Kindle Oasis in 2016, positioning it as a high-end e-reader with physical page-turning buttons and a thicker side design for easy one-handed grip. The company updated the device in 2017 and 2019 but has not released any further updates since then.
It’s worth noting that Amazon launched a Paperwhite with a larger screen, a Kindle with a color screen, and the second-generation Kindle Scribe yesterday evening. However, none of these new products feature physical page-turning buttons.
