Tesla’s Refreshed Model 3 Performance Obtains South Korean Certification, Revealing New Details

March 06, 2024 – Tesla’s refreshed Model 3 Performance has recently obtained certification in South Korea, revealing some intriguing details about the upcoming electric vehicle.

This new iteration boasts a front 3D3 induction asynchronous motor paired with a rear 4D2 permanent magnet synchronous motor (a new configuration), delivering 215 horsepower and 412 horsepower respectively. However, it’s worth noting that the total power output is not a simple sum of these figures, resulting in an approximate power rating of 461 kW, with the 4D2 motor contributing around 303 kW.

Interestingly, the weight of the new Model 3 Performance remains at 1,855 kg, despite the addition of a state-of-the-art LG Energy Solution M3P battery. This battery pack, with a capacity of 82 kWh and a nominal voltage of 355V, promises a driving range of 430 km – a figure that reflects the stricter certification standards in South Korea compared to the US.

One of the most significant improvements in this new model is the motor’s peak power output, which is achieved at a higher speed of 110 km/h, compared to the previous generation’s range of 70-75 km/h. This enhancement suggests that the motor can deliver more power at higher speeds, providing an even more thrilling driving experience.

Anticipation is building for the global debut of this refreshed Tesla model in the coming months. Rumors suggest that it may carry a name like “Ludicrous” or “Plaid,” following the naming conventions of previous Tesla models. In addition to the upgraded motor and battery, the new Model 3 Performance is expected to feature refreshed wheel designs, a carbon fiber rear spoiler, enhanced suspension, and revamped interior seating. Of course, the Performance badge will continue to adorn this high-performance variant.
