Apple Announces the End of an Era: iPhone 6, iPod nano, and shuffle Discontinued

October 9, 2024 – Apple has officially marked the end of an era by adding the seventh-generation iPod nano and fourth-generation iPod shuffle to its list of obsolete products, alongside the iPhone 6, which has now been classified as discontinued, following the earlier discontinuation of the iPhone 6 Plus. Additionally, the 2017 12-inch MacBook and sixth-generation iPad have been added to the list of vintage products.

According to Apple’s definitions, vintage products are those that have been discontinued for more than five but less than seven years since their last shipment date, while obsolete products are those that have been discontinued for over seven years.

For vintage products, Apple’s official stores and authorized service providers may continue to offer repair services, subject to the availability of parts. However, for obsolete products, Apple ceases to provide any hardware repair services, with the exception of MacBook battery replacement services for certain models, which may be available for up to ten years from their last shipment date, depending on parts availability.

This move by Apple signifies the end of a significant chapter in the company’s history, as these devices have played a pivotal role in shaping the tech landscape and have been cherished by millions of users worldwide. While these iconic products may no longer be available for purchase or repair through official channels, their legacy will continue to resonate in the hearts of tech enthusiasts and Apple fans alike.
