November 30, 2023 – During the DealBook Summit held on November 29th, NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang made a bold declaration, stating that artificial intelligence would surpass human capabilities within the next five years.
Huang explained that if we consider General Artificial Intelligence (AGI) as a computer capable of performing tasks in a manner comparable to humans, then “artificial intelligence can accomplish these tasks within the next five years.”
One of the primary reasons Huang cited for the technology industry being several years away from achieving true artificial intelligence is that, despite machine learning’s proficiency in tasks such as recognition and perception, it still struggles with multi-step reasoning, which remains a primary focus of research.
Huang also predicted that the competition in the field of artificial intelligence would lead to the emergence of readily available AI tools. Companies across various industries, from chip design and software development to pharmaceutical research and radiology, would tailor their AI solutions to meet their specific needs.
Furthermore, during the interview, Huang recalled the moment when he delivered the “world’s first artificial intelligence supercomputer” to OpenAI.
At that time, Elon Musk, co-founder of OpenAI, had not yet left the organization and learned about the device during a meeting.
“After Musk saw it, he said to me, ‘I want one too,’ and told me about OpenAI,” Huang recounted. “That day, I delivered the world’s first artificial intelligence supercomputer to OpenAI.”
