October 30, 2024 – According to a report by Bloomberg, OpenAI generates approximately 75% of its revenue from consumer subscriptions, as disclosed by the company’s Chief Financial Officer, Sarah Friar.
The consumer strategy of OpenAI revolves around its ChatGPT product, which offers a monthly subscription starting at $20. The report indicates that OpenAI has successfully converted 5% to 6% of its free users into paying members. Currently, ChatGPT boasts a weekly active user base of 250 million.
In addition to the consumer market, OpenAI also places significant emphasis on enterprise users. In September, the company announced that its enterprise products, including ChatGPT Team, Enterprise, and ChatGPT Edu, have amassed over one million paying customers. Friar highlighted that, despite still being in the development phase, the business segment targeting enterprises has already achieved profitability.
Furthermore, Friar mentioned that the company is actively expanding its infrastructure, including the construction of a data center in the United States capable of providing up to 5 gigawatts of power. This expansion is aimed at supporting the growth of its artificial intelligence operations.
