OpenAI to Make Splash at Super Bowl with First TV Ad, Names Kate Rouch as Inaugural CMO

February 6, 2025 – According to informed sources quoted by the Wall Street Journal today, ChatGPT developer and artificial intelligence company OpenAI is expected to air its first television advertisement during the upcoming Super Bowl game in the United States on Sunday.

Founded in 2015, OpenAI rose to fame after launching the widely popular chatbot ChatGPT at the end of 2022. Remarkably, the company has become one of the most recognized names in the AI field, achieving this status almost entirely without paid advertising.

The Super Bowl, the annual championship game of the National Football League (NFL) in the United States, holds a similar cultural significance to the Chinese Spring Festival Gala, drawing immense attention and providing a prime advertising opportunity for various brands.

Reports indicate that a 30-second advertisement during the 59th Super Bowl commands an advertising fee exceeding $8 million.

Last December, OpenAI appointed its first Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Kate Rouch, signaling the company’s intention to place greater emphasis on marketing efforts.

The upcoming Super Bowl advertisement marks OpenAI’s first foray into commercial advertising. Notably, competitors like Google have already run AI-focused ads during last year’s Super Bowl.
