This move marks a significant departure from one of the marquee attractions at last September’s Meta Connect conference.

Instead, Meta unveiled AI Studio on Monday, a groundbreaking tool that empowers American creators to craft their very own AI chatbots. According to official statements, the company appears to be embracing a more decentralized, user-driven approach to AI chatbots, shifting away from the centralized, curated celebrity bots of the past.

Liz Sweeney, a spokesperson for Meta, confirmed that users will no longer be able to interact with AI personas modeled after celebrities. She emphasized that Meta has garnered valuable insights from developing these bots and its broader Meta AI initiatives, gaining a deeper understanding of how people leverage AI for connection and creativity. Initially, Meta had launched a suite of AI chatbots featuring personalities like Charli D’Amelio, Dwyane Wade, and Paris Hilton, with plans to expand the lineup to include the likes of Bear Grylls, Chloe Kim, and Josh Richards. However, those expansion plans were reportedly shelved, with sources indicating that Meta had invested millions of dollars in acquiring rights from some of these celebrities.
