April 15, 2026 – Tesla CEO Elon Musk has made a major announcement, revealing that the company’s AI chip design team has successfully completed the tape – out of the AI5 chip. Not only that, but more powerful chips including the AI6, Dojo 3, and several others are also under intensive development.
Musk expressed his gratitude to Tesla’s partners, TSMC and Samsung, for their support during the mass – production process of the chips. He further disclosed that “the AI5 chip is expected to become one of the most widely produced AI chips globally in the future.”

It is reported that the AI5 chip boasts a computing performance ranging from 2000 to 2500 TOPS, which is approximately five times that of the current HW4 chip. This high – level performance enables it to support more complex algorithms for the Full Self – Driving (FSD) system.
Industry analysts believe that the mass – production progress of the AI5 chip will have a direct impact on the speed of promoting Tesla’s FSD features. Moreover, it could potentially serve as a crucial support for Tesla’s robotics business.
As the AI5 chip enters its final stages of development, Tesla has already initiated early – stage research and development of the AI6 chip. There is a high probability that the AI6 will continue to use the same foundry cooperation system as the AI5, with Samsung Electronics set to be the exclusive manufacturer in the later stages.
In addition, the AI6 will adopt a modular architecture design and be deeply integrated with the Dojo supercomputer chip. This integration aims to achieve coordinated development across the vehicle, robotics, and supercomputing ecosystems.
