October 29, 2024 – Google announced in a blog post yesterday (October 28th) the expansion of its AI Overviews in Search feature to over 100 countries and regions worldwide, reaching a global audience of 1 billion monthly active users.

Initially launched in the United States in May of this year, and later extended to select markets outside the US in August, AI Overviews in Search is a feature that utilizes artificial intelligence to summarize search results, enabling users to find more relevant and tailored information.

According to Google’s blog post, the rollout of AI Overviews will commence globally this week, spanning across 100+ countries and regions, and covering 1 billion monthly active users.

Furthermore, Google has expanded its language support for the feature, which now includes English, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish, among others.

The primary objective of AI Overviews is to assist users in discovering high-quality content from publishers, businesses, and creators. Since its introduction, AI Overviews has incorporated more prominent link display options.

On both desktop and mobile devices, users can access relevant websites through the website icon located in the top right corner. Additionally, the newly introduced in-line links appear directly within the text of AI Overviews. Testing results have indicated that these updates have effectively increased traffic to supported websites.
