Tesla Unveils Robovan: A Modern Twist on 1930s Art Deco Design

October 12, 2024 – Tesla unveiled its Robovan concept car at an event yesterday, showcasing a sleek and futuristic design that stands apart from the rugged aesthetics of its Cybertruck. Drawing inspiration from the Art Deco trains of the 1930s, such as the 1936 Mercury, CEO Elon Musk revealed that the retro-futuristic theme is evident in every aspect of the Robovan’s design.

The Robovan eschews traditional elements like a windshield and driver’s cockpit, instead featuring a spacious passenger area. Its smooth contours and dynamic lines give the impression of a vehicle poised to whisk passengers into the future. Musk assured attendees that the production version of the Robovan would closely resemble the concept shown at the event.

Designed as a fully autonomous vehicle, the Robovan is intended to operate in various settings, including public roads and Boring Company tunnels. Its expansive interior can accommodate up to 20 passengers, making it a viable option for both city commutes and longer journeys.

To ensure a comfortable ride on diverse road conditions, Musk announced that the Robovan is equipped with an automatic load-leveling suspension system. This advanced technology adjusts the vehicle’s height based on road surfaces, effectively absorbing vibrations and enhancing the overall passenger experience.
