August 20, 2024 – The city of Grünheide, located in the German state of Brandenburg, has announced the discovery of chemical weapons in the expansion area planned for Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory. The local government has scheduled a cleanup operation from August 19th to 22nd.
According to the mayor of Grünheide, Arne Christiani, the chemical weapons were found in the development zone 60 of the “Freienbrink Nord Service and Logistics Center.” Once the cleanup is completed, the weapons will be packaged, transported, and destroyed.

The cleanup process is expected to commence on August 20th. To ensure safety, a cordoned-off area will be established, which may cause some disruptions to local roads and traffic. Christiani emphasized that the cleanup operation would be conducted in a way that minimizes the impact on residents and urged the public to cooperate with the relevant authorities.
Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory has become a significant local employer. Statistics show that the factory employs workers from 120 different countries, demonstrating its diversity. Additionally, the factory boasts industry-leading water usage efficiency and charging station availability.
