August 31, 2026 – Tesla has officially launched a budget-friendly version of the Model 3 in the Hong Kong and Macau markets, positioning it as “the most affordable vehicle with the lowest long-term ownership costs.”
According to the official website, the starting price for this new model in Hong Kong is HKD 205,000 (approximately RMB 175,900 at the current exchange rate), representing an 8.5% price reduction compared to the previously available base model. In Macau, the starting price is MOP 252,000 (approximately RMB 209,800). For comparison, the starting price for the rear-wheel-drive Model 3 currently on sale in mainland China is RMB 235,500, making the Hong Kong budget version nearly RMB 60,000 cheaper than its mainland counterpart.
In terms of powertrain, the new vehicle features a single-motor, rear-wheel-drive configuration with a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 6.2 seconds and a WLTP range of 572 kilometers. The maximum supercharging power has been capped at 175 kW, which is notably lower than the 250 kW limit of higher-tier versions. However, the 15-minute charging range reaches 286 kilometers, the highest in the entire lineup.
The removed configurations are primarily concentrated in interior materials and comfort features. The seats have been replaced with eco-friendly fabric upholstery, though the heating function is retained. The audio system has been downgraded from a 9-speaker setup to a standard 7-speaker system, while the 15.4-inch central touchscreen remains unchanged.
Based on similar standard versions previously launched in the U.S. and South Korea, it is expected that the rear 8-inch entertainment screen, ambient cabin lighting, front seat ventilation, and rear seat heating have also been removed. Additionally, the steering wheel adjustment has been downgraded to manual, and the chassis suspension has been replaced with a standard mechanical setup.
Notably, this is not Tesla’s first foray into budget models. In October 2025, Tesla released standard versions of the Model 3 and Model Y in the U.S. market, with starting prices reduced by $5,000 to $5,500 compared to previous entry-level models. In January 2026, the South Korean market welcomed a budget Model 3 priced at approximately RMB 174,000.
The pricing strategy in the Hong Kong and Macau markets is consistent with Tesla’s overseas standard versions. By significantly trimming comfort configurations to lower the barrier to entry, Tesla has managed to reduce costs while keeping the core three-electric powertrain performance largely intact.
