Qualcomm CEO Amon: Major Smartphone Computing Architecture Shift Set for 2026 Reveal

December 23, 2025 – At the UBS 2025 Global Technology and AI Conference held earlier this month, Cristiano Amon, the CEO of Qualcomm, made a bold prediction that a significant transformation in smartphone computing architecture is on the horizon.

Amon revealed that Qualcomm has been pouring resources into the research and development of this new architecture for several years. He anticipates that the company will officially unveil its achievements in 2026, potentially during the regular Snapdragon Summit scheduled for the second half of that year.

According to Amon, the current development of AI experiences generally follows a dual – track approach of on – device and cloud – based operations. On one hand, devices should be equipped with models capable of understanding vision, hearing, and language to deliver a seamless, lag – free user experience. On the other hand, they also need to have robust connectivity capabilities to ensure the smooth transmission of results from the cloud.

Moreover, Amon pointed out that a crucial trend in today’s AI landscape is the importance of contextual awareness for intelligent agents and their experiences. As a result, it is an inevitable choice to implement certain AI functions on mobile phones or other smart devices that can obtain real – time dynamic environmental information.
