June 19, 2025 – Bloomberg revealed today that Microsoft is gearing up for another round of job cuts, with thousands of positions expected to be eliminated, primarily hitting the sales division.
This move is part of the company’s ongoing efforts to streamline its workforce while simultaneously ramping up investments in artificial intelligence. Sources familiar with the matter indicated that the announcement of the layoffs could come early next month, following the close of Microsoft’s fiscal year. Other departments may also be affected, though the exact timing remains subject to change. Microsoft has declined to comment on the matter.
This latest round of job cuts follows closely on the heels of a previous one in May, when Microsoft laid off around 6,000 employees, mainly in product and engineering roles, while largely sparing customer-facing positions in sales and marketing.

Back in April, Microsoft had already informed its employees that it would be transferring more of its software sales operations for small and medium-sized enterprises to third-party companies in the future.
Microsoft has stated that it regularly reviews and adjusts its organizational structure to ensure that resource allocation supports business growth. Currently, the company is pouring billions of dollars into servers and data centers. Executives have assured both Wall Street and internal stakeholders that they will maintain strict control over other expenses.
As of the end of June 2024, Microsoft employed a total of 228,000 people, with approximately 45,000 working in sales and marketing. Historical patterns suggest that Microsoft typically makes organizational adjustments and announces personnel changes around the end of its fiscal year.
