August 15, 2025 – According to a blog post from tech media outlet 9to5Mac today, Uber is delving into the possibility of introducing a brand – new additional insurance service. Under this service, passengers can receive a certain amount of compensation if they miss important appointments due to drivers canceling orders without valid reasons or arriving late for pick – ups.
As per the blog post, Uber has initiated a survey among some Brazilian users to gauge their interest in various insurance options. If implemented, this insurance will cover a range of situations, including drivers canceling rides, significant delays in trips, missing flights, and the loss of personal belongings. It marks the first time for the platform to incorporate a risk – protection mechanism into its ride – hailing service chain.

One of the most eye – catching compensation scenarios is the “missed flight” clause. In cases where passengers miss their flights during airport pick – up trips due to the driver’s fault, they can apply for compensation. Previously, Uber had piloted a similar policy in Mumbai, India, where the compensation for missed flights was around $85. However, the specific compensation standards for the Brazilian plan have not been disclosed yet.
Based on the survey materials, this insurance service is planned to be charged per ride, with an initial price of approximately $0.04 (or 0.20 Brazilian reais) per order. This fee will be added as an extra item to the fare. Uber has clearly stated that it is currently only in the stage of testing demand and has not yet determined the final form of the product or its launch time.
