Renault Alpine A390 Electric Coupe-SUV Aims to Overtake Porsche Macan in Tomorrow’s Unveiling

May 27 2025 – Renault’s high-performance subsidiary, Alpine, is set to unveil its latest creation—an all-electric coupe-SUV—at 11 AM Eastern Time today. The automaker has already teased the upcoming model, known as the A390, with heavily camouflaged preview images of the production-ready vehicle.

Slated for a European debut first, the A390 crossover sports hatchback draws inspiration from its concept car counterpart. Notably, 85% of the concept’s design elements are expected to transition seamlessly into the final production model. Inside the cabin, the concept showcased a race-inspired steering wheel, tactile physical buttons, a dual-screen setup spanning the center console and passenger side, and a four-seat configuration.

Visually, the concept car boasts striking 22-inch wheels with transparent panels, offering a glimpse into the torque vectoring technology beneath. Muscular wheel arches, crystal-like LED headlights and taillights, hidden door handles, a window profile reminiscent of the A110, and a rear spoiler with a diffuser complete the aggressive exterior. The top-tier variant is rumored to sport a tri-motor powertrain, though exact performance figures remain under wraps.

Alpine aims to position the A390 as a direct competitor to the electric Porsche Macan, particularly the high-performance Turbo trim. The Macan EV, with its 630-horsepower output, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.1 seconds and offers a range of approximately 464 km. In comparison, the A390 concept measures 4615 mm in length with a 2751 mm wheelbase, slightly smaller than the Macan’s 4785 mm length and 2894 mm wheelbase.

Previously, Alpine outlined plans for a diverse lineup encompassing seven new models, including sports cars, hot hatches, and SUVs. Renault’s broader vision includes a target of 150,000 global annual sales by 2030.

According to earlier reports, the A390 will feature a rear-biased torque distribution of 60:40, paired with an 87 kWh battery. Under WLTP testing conditions, it promises a maximum range of 625 km, positioning it as a formidable contender in the electric performance SUV segment.
