January 4, 2026 – According to a report from Insider Gaming on December 30, 2025, Sony is considering delaying the launch of the PlayStation 6 (PS6) due to the continuous rise in memory prices.
However, YouTuber @Moore’s Law Is Dead stated in his latest video today that Sony has not yet made a decision on whether to postpone the PS6’s release. He revealed that the agreement between Sony and AMD to produce the rumored Orion APU by mid – 2027 is still on track.

“Sony has signed relevant contracts with its partners and is expected to start producing the custom APU for the PS6 in mid – 2027. The final RAM capacity configuration of the console still needs to be determined at a later stage,” he said.
Nevertheless, he added that if the memory supply situation fails to improve or even gets worse in the future, Sony does have the possibility of delaying the release of the new console.
MLID did not deny that both Sony and Microsoft’s consoles could be affected by the memory shortage. But he also pointed out that the price of DDR5 memory may stabilize over time, thus avoiding any impact on the production plans in 2027. The two companies could well wait another year and deliver the consoles at the end of 2027 or the beginning of 2028.
While the two major console manufacturers have some breathing room, Valve’s newly released Steam Machine has no such luxury. Both Insider Gaming and MLID have previously discussed that this mini – PC, set to be released in the first quarter, is likely to face a crisis, with an expected price of at least $699.
