February 3, 2026 – OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) today to address some recent rumors. He stated, “We really enjoy working with Nvidia. They make the best AI chips in the world, and we aim to be their major customer for the long haul. I’m truly puzzled about where these baseless and wild rumors are coming from.”
These remarks from Altman came after a series of reports. Reuters had previously reported that OpenAI, the ChatGPT developer backed by Microsoft, was exploring alternative options to Nvidia’s AI chips. Additionally, The Wall Street Journal claimed that Nvidia’s planned $100 billion investment in OpenAI had hit a snag.

It’s worth noting that back in September last year, Nvidia announced its intention to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI. As part of this deal, the chipmaker was set to acquire a stake in the startup, while OpenAI would gain access to the funds needed to purchase cutting-edge chips. Reuters reported that the deal was initially expected to be finalized within a few weeks. However, in reality, the negotiations have dragged on for months. During this period, OpenAI has entered into multiple agreements with AMD.
On Saturday, Nvidia’s CEO, Jensen Huang, refuted reports of strained relations with OpenAI, calling such claims “nonsense.” He also reiterated Nvidia’s plan to make a substantial investment in OpenAI.
