April 1, 2025 – In a monumental announcement made on Monday, OpenAI revealed the completion of a colossal private funding round that amassed an astonishing 40billion,propellingthecompany′svaluationtoastaggering300 billion post-financing. This milestone is regarded as one of the largest private funding rounds in history.
According to a blog post published on OpenAI’s official website, the funding was led by SoftBank Group. Other notable participants included Microsoft, Coatue, Altimeter, and Thrive – all of whom have been early backers of OpenAI.
OpenAI stated in the blog, “This new influx of capital will enable us to further push the boundaries of AI research, expand our computational infrastructure, and provide more powerful tools for the 500 million people who use ChatGPT every week.”
Furthermore, OpenAI expressed excitement about collaborating with SoftBank Group, noting that “few companies understand how to scale transformative technologies like they do.”
CNBC, citing a source familiar with the matter, reported that approximately $18 billion of the funding will be allocated towards OpenAI’s ambitious “Stargate” infrastructure project, which aims to establish a network of AI data centers across the United States.
