Omdia: SK Hynix Outpaces Samsung for Three Straight Quarters, Tops DRAM Market Share List

November 29, 2025 – According to the latest data released by market research firm Omdia on Friday, as reported by Yonhap News Agency today, the global DRAM sales in the third quarter of 2025 surged by 30% quarter – on – quarter, reaching a staggering $40.3 billion, mainly due to rising prices.

In this quarter, SK Hynix maintained its leading position in the global DRAM market, with a market share of 34.1%. However, this represented a 5.3 – percentage – point decline from the previous quarter. Notably, it has held the top spot for three consecutive quarters, marking the first real shake – up in the DRAM market’s 30 – year landscape.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics saw its market share increase slightly by 0.5 percentage points to 33.7% during the same period, narrowing the gap with SK Hynix. But the real determinant of the gap between the two giants lies in HBM rather than traditional DRAM. Micron Technology took the third place with a 25.8% market share in this quarter.

TrendForce, another market research entity, released similar data on Wednesday. It showed that the overall revenue of the global DRAM market in the third quarter of 2025 grew by 30.9% quarter – on – quarter, hitting $41.4 billion.

SK Hynix also witnessed remarkable financial performance in the third quarter of this year. Its operating profit (calculated based on consolidated financial statements) soared by 61.9% year – on – year to 11.3834 trillion won, breaking through the 10 – trillion – won mark for the first time in the company’s history and setting a new single – quarter record.

The company’s sales in the third quarter increased by 39.1% year – on – year to 24.4489 trillion won. Its net profit skyrocketed by 119% year – on – year to 12.5975 trillion won, with a net profit margin of 52%. As a result, SK Hynix refreshed its single – quarter records for both sales and operating profit just one quarter after the previous highs. The previous records were set in the second quarter of this year, with sales of 22.232 trillion won and operating profit of 9.2129 trillion won.

The price increases of DRAM and NAND, along with the growth in the shipment of AI server chips, have strongly boosted the company’s performance. SK Hynix stated that increased customer investment in AI infrastructure has led to a significant rise in the overall demand for memory chips. Thanks to the increased sales of high – end products such as 12 – layer HBM3E and server DDR5, the company has set new records for the second consecutive quarter following the previous quarter.
