April 23, 2025 – During Tesla’s Q1 2025 earnings call, CEO Elon Musk confirmed a significant reduction in his work hours with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to refocus on Tesla’s operations.
Musk stated on the call, “Addressing waste and fraud to steer the nation back on track is crucial, but my priorities are shifting.” Starting in May, he plans to allocate just one or two days weekly to DOGE duties, dedicating the remainder to Tesla.

Recent initiatives at Tesla, according to Musk, include launching a robotaxi platform in Austin, introducing the Cybercab, and unveiling several affordable new models in H1. These projects are pivotal for Tesla’s growth, requiring his full attention.
While Musk intends to remain part of the DOGE team through Trump’s presidency, his engagement with government affairs will diminish. His primary focus will now be on scaling Tesla’s business.
This announcement offers relief to Tesla investors and analysts. Industry figures like Wedbush Securities’ Dan Ives had warned that unfocused leadership could hinder Tesla’s progress. With Musk’s renewed commitment, the company is poised to accelerate its strategic roadmap.
