March 25, 2025 – Microsoft Unveils Transition Plan from Classic Outlook to New Outlook for Windows for Enterprise Users
In a recent announcement made through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center, Microsoft Corporation has revealed that enterprise users will be shifting from the classic version of Outlook to the new Outlook for Windows by April 2026. This transition is part of Microsoft’s ongoing efforts to provide enhanced and updated features to its users.
According to the latest support documentation released by the company, users enrolled in the Business plan under the Current channel will automatically be switched to the new version of Outlook starting January 2025. These users will receive in-app notifications informing them of the upcoming change and will have the option to opt-in or delay the transition.

With the release of Microsoft 365 Desktop Client version 2502 on March 5, 2025, newly deployed Windows devices will now come with the new Outlook pre-installed by default. Administrators have the flexibility to choose whether to install only the new version, only the classic version, or both. Microsoft advises organizations to run both versions simultaneously to facilitate a gradual migration and minimize the impact of an abrupt switch.
The version 2502 update, which has a package size of approximately 60 MB, comes with the latest build number 18526.20168. The company emphasizes that users can disable the automatic migration feature through the “General” settings in Outlook if they prefer to stay on the classic version for the meantime.
This strategic move by Microsoft underscores its commitment to delivering modern and innovative tools that cater to the evolving needs of its enterprise customers.
