November 13, 2025 – According to Bloomberg, Microsoft is set to leverage its access to OpenAI’s custom AI chip development to accelerate its own chip – making efforts.
In a podcast episode, Microsoft CEO Nadella stated, “Even if OpenAI makes innovations at the system level, we can fully tap into those achievements. We’ll first replicate the technologies they’ve developed for themselves and then expand on them.”

Under the revised agreement between Microsoft and OpenAI, Microsoft is permitted to use OpenAI’s models until 2032 and access its research results until 2030, or until an expert panel confirms the realization of artificial general intelligence (AGI). However, Microsoft’s intellectual property rights do not cover OpenAI’s consumer – facing hardware.
It has been learned from the report that OpenAI plans to collaborate with Broadcom on custom – made chips and network hardware. Although Microsoft has been actively pushing forward its in – house chip development, its results have not been as impressive as those of its cloud – computing rival Google.
Nadella further added that the company will combine its in – house team’s work with OpenAI’s design plans, and it is clear that Microsoft owns the relevant intellectual property rights.
